captionPIC FROM MERCURY PRESS (PICTURED: CUSTOMERS SHOPPING THROUGH THE SHELVES OF THE REAL JUNK FOOD PROJECT IN LEEDS, WEST YORKSHIRE) A charity boss who tackles food waste by making meals out of unwanted grub could face criminal charges after trading standards bosses claimed he was selling food 17 YEARS past its use-by date.Adam Smith, co-founder and director of The Real Junk Food Project (THRJFP), said he was stunned to receive a formal interview summons from West Yorkshire Shared Services Trading Standards.The letter claims officers found 444 items which were 6,345 days past their use-by date in one of his venues - and Adam believes they got the cumulative 17-year figure by adding together how many days EVERY item was out of date by.Adam, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, now faces potential prosecution under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, as well as Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.The project, which boasts 127 caf?s worldwide serving meals created with intercepted waste food, has openly provided safe food past its use-by date since it began in 2013.Now the trained chef, who claims to have fed one million people globally in the last three years alone, claims he cant wait to lock horns with Trading Standards.
