captionPictured here is: Cati Blauvelt Just past midnight on October 26 2016, Investigators Cheryl Schofield and Keith Morecraft were dispatched to a crime scene. Cati Blauvelt's mangled body had been found stuffed in a concrete box in an abandoned farmhouse. She was just 22 years old. A knife blade left in her body. Her mum Patti Piver immediately told detectives who she thought was responsible for her daughter’s murder – Cati’s husband of just three months John Blauvelt. Blauvelt was an Army recruitment officer who had met and married Cati within months of meeting, much to the dismay of her family. He had already been charged with domestic violence for threatening her with a gun – and just after 3 months of marriage Cati had left him because he had turned their home into a party house, inviting teenagers over to smoke weed, drink and take drugs. Then after the domestic violence issue, he was suspended by the Army and blame Cati for ruining his career. Blauvelt denied killing Cati but the minute cops let he him go as they didn’t have enough evidence to hold him, he went on the run – with his new 17 year-old girlfriend Hannah Thompson. Several months later Thompson returned home but still denied having anything to do with Cati’s death. The case lingered on until several years later Thompson came forward to admit that Blauvelt had told her he’d killed Cati and that she’d been in daily contact with him. Police tracked him to the other side of the country ir Oregon – and six years after Cati’s murder Blauvelt was arrested and charged. Thompson was a star witness in his trial and in 2022 it took the jury just five hours before they returned a verdict of guilty. John Blauvelt was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Hannah Thompson was also charged with five felonies including obstruction of justice and accessory after-the-fact. She is still awaiting her trial. captionPictured here is: Cati Blauvelt, John Blauvelt Just past midnight on October 26 2016, Investigators Cheryl Schofield and Keith Morecraft were dispatched to a crime scene.
