wacky and real life
These images show the boss of a multi-million-pound poultry farm boss dressed up as a Pharaoh and being pulled around on a chariot by his workers, who were ordered to dress up as slaves. Female workers meanwhile were reportedly ordered to stand at the side of the route of the procession and wave flags in support of the director of the Yaroslavsky Broiler company, named as Elman Nazifovich Azizov. Video and pictures of his big day show him being pulled around on the chariot while his subordinates, also dressed as Egyptians, beat drums as they parade him around at their headquarters in Yaroslavl, in Russia. It was not revealed how old he was. The video was reportedly filmed on the premises of the business, which is the largest firm in the region. It was founded more than two decades ago after taking over another company formed in the 1970s. According to the Kontur.Fokus service, the shareholders of the JSC are Elman Azizov, the Yaroslavl-based Solidarnost LLC, which he also owns, and a certain Integrated Companies Associates, LLC from the USA. it has a turnover of 9.5 billion rubles (79,593,850 GBP) and is engaged in the production of broiler chicken meat, semi-finished products, eggs, and more recently as part of the continued expansion programme, the company added the cultivation of aquaculture products such as fish. It currently employs in excess of 2000 staff. Elman Azizov joined the company as a consultant in 1997 and took over first as deputy general director and then as chairman of the board of directors a decade later in 2007. The images caused outrage after being shared online, with angry commenters saying that the footage represented a return to Serfdom and Tsarist Russia. One netizen, going by 'Roma Quint', said: "This is how modern society works! It's normal!" While 'Margarita Golod' added: "He should go to the doctor and get checked." And 'Marina Telegina' said: "Only Stalin is missing." However, after initially refusing to comment, the firm later claimed that it was all a misunderstanding and that the celebration had been organised as part of a "company day" which coincided with the birthday of the chairman of the board. They said that it was the idea of staff and he had politely agreed to accept the rank of pharaoh at their insistence. Company spokeswoman Olga Kirillova claimed it built team spirit, saying: "If only you could see how we come together as a team during preparation and rehearsals for this fun event, how many common topics it emerged that we all enjoy, and the fun, laughter and joy we have from the planning and implementation that continues long after the event is finished." In defence of the CEO, she added that it was not his choice, and he had been forced into it, saying: "Once a year, every year, we prepare such a holiday. We have a lot of talented people at the factory, and they are happy to join in and offer their ideas. "The most important thing is that we try to make our congratulatory part a surprise for Elman Nazifovich, so we keep all the details of the congratulations a secret during all the months of preparation. And every time we wait with great excitement for his reaction to our surprise. "This year, we chose the theme of ancient Egypt for its colours and solemnity. Of course, the birthday boy always participates in our ideas and accepts our 'rules'. "We blocked his way at the entrance, asked him to get out of the car, put on a costume in the holiday theme and began the congratulatory part with a theatrical performance." (T4/ends)
