Woman Had Gold Soles In Her Shoes But Was Caught When Walking Funny

The road to China may not be paved with gold, but one person entering the country had her shoes lined with gold after stuffing mini gold bars inside. The woman was caught out after the uncomfortable addition to the inside of the shoes caused her to walk strangely, attracting the attention of customs officials, local media reported on 16th August. Huanggang Customs agents operating at Futian Port, which is the main port of entry between mainland China and Hong Kong and is located in the Futian District of Shenzhen in mainland China, noticed her strange gait. After pulling her over, they inspected her footwear and discovered three pieces of gold hidden in her shoes. After being confiscated, they were confirmed to be gold and weighed 347.5 grammes. The initial estimated value of the gold was more than CNY 190,000, which is around GBP 20,000. According to the appraisal of Shenzhen Customs Industrial Products Testing Technology Center, the above metal samples, totalling 347.5 grammes, were made of pure gold (gold content over 99 per cent). In a statement issued after the gold was confiscated, customs officials said: "Individuals who bring gold, silver, and their products into the country weighing more than 50 grammes must declare to the customs and go through relevant formalities."
