(starts) A German brewer and pub owner has created a pin-up calendar of the most beautiful beer bellies. Alexander Klaus, 42, who owns the Bierblume brewery and pub in Goerlitz, Saxony State, Germany, said 11 of his most loyal regulars were thrilled when he floated the idea last month. Klaus said: "The idea came to my wife and me over a beer. "I wanted to set a good example. So I immediately organised a photographer, wrote to my regular customers and the deal was done. "Even beer lovers from Dresden travelled to Goerlitz in mid-July. They were enthusiastic about the idea." The photoshoot took place in Goerlitz's old town, with St Peter's Church, a police van, and the pub itself serving as the main backdrops. Klaus said: "This was about the beer belly. Nobody questioned anything. The project was not about highlighting the body. "It was about having fun. Everybody who took part did so voluntarily. We wanted to present ourselves and Goerlitz. We had lots of fun. "So we exposed our well-formed beer bellies and stretched them out in front of the camera lens so that they were clearly visible. "Women also joined in on the fun." Klaus said the photos will be featured in a beer belly calendar, which will have an initial print run of 250 copies. He added: "The price has not yet been set, but it will be available at the end of September, including at the Goerlitz tourist information centre. "We will donate the money from selling our beer belly calendar to a good cause." (T4/ends)
