Black Saturn Captured UK By Mahima Kaur **EXCLUSIVE** MARVELLOUS images from a garden in Wiltshire captured the beauty of Saturn, with one image looking like the planet is black with white rings. Tom Williams (20) from Trowbridge, Wiltshire took these stunning images of Saturn and also managed to capture some lunar images. One of the images also captures the moon’s surface. Tom uses a 16-inch reflecting "Dobsonian" telescope - model Sky-Watcher 400P GoTo. He describes the phenomenon of Black Saturn which he captures using a special filter that targets 889nm light. “The "Black Saturn" is a view in CH4 Methane band using a special filter that targets 889nm light,” said Tom. “As the planet is made up of a large amount of methane, it absorbs the light, making it appear coal black. “The rings aren't made of methane so they are seen as normal “It creates the illusion that the rings are glowing, when in-fact it's the opposite and the globe is being darkened by CH4 absorption. “I also took some lunar images on the same night.” ENDS
