River pollution in the UK is becoming a hot topic, as only 14 per cent of English rivers are deemed of a good ecological standard, according to Britain’s Environment Agency - a body whose budget has been slashed by 75 per cent in the last decade. Lindsey completed her swim in Bristol Harbour on Sunday (3October2021) where she was greeted by a group of singing and dancing synchro open water swimmers - organised as a surprise for her. Unfortunately, however, she was forced to skip a day of her swim just outside of Bath as she was violently sick and was not able to get back into the water the following day, and was ferried down the river in her support canoe. On a previous swim of the River Thames for a plastic awareness campaign she rescued a drowning cow, a story that was turned into a school play and a children's book titled The Mermaid and the Cow. She now plans to turn her latest adventure into another book - The Mermaid, the Otter and the Giant Poo. Lindsey has also urged those concerned about the state of Britain’s rivers to write to their MP and tell them to do more to improve their ecology and back River Action's campaign urging the government to double the environmental budget for river health.
