This is one new hybrid you should defi nitely try.By adding light weights (think 2-5kg)to a regular yoga routine, you have to engage more muscles and really think about each movement. The result?A workout that not only sculpts and tones your body but improves core strength, posture, fl exibility and balance too. What’s not love about that? INTERESTED? captionWORDS LIZZA GEBILAGIN ADDITIONAL WORDS ALEXANDRA OKE PHOTOGRAPHY RODNEY MACUJA Lizza says… I WAS PRETTY confi dent going into this challenge, but I’m not ashamed to admit that Warrior Yoga battled my ego and won. There were two reasons for my cockiness:I have a love for Bikram yoga that teeters on the obsessive (I once did two classes in a row – hungover) and I’ve also run while lugging 10kg sandbags for boot camp. So yoga with weights didn’t sound that tough, especially when they were cute little 2kg dumbbells. But after a doing a few poses – such as squatting toe balances, boat pose twists and extended side angle with rows – those on its own, so add weights and a pulsing the challenge. Surprisingly, I found the weights helped me with the one-legged balancing poses, making me more stable torture; my abs felt like they were on fi re.By the end of the class, I was sweating so much that I couldn’t hold onto the dumbbells properly. Pretty gross, I know, I was considering the room wasn’t heated to 40° C like it is at my usual Bikram fi x.And Warrior Yoga’s fl ow nature gave the class the perfect mix of strength work and movement. I felt strong and fl exible afterwards – and determined to return soon to conquer those 2kg dumbbells!” womensfitnessmagazine.com.au womensfitnessaustralia @womensfitnessmag @womensfitnessau 131 Instead of dumbbells, you could try strapping weights to your ankles or wrists for a pretty similar e ect. Next-day pain Social side Heart-pumping workout Good for the soul Beginner-friendly Fun factor dumbbells felt like 20kg not 2kg; not so little and cute anymore! And it had totally slipped my mind that warrior pose was already tough motion to it and my body was shaking from than usual. But the core section was absolute but I was actually impressed at how fl ushed Lizza wears Reebok bra, $49.99; tee, $39.99; and capri tights, $49.99. Li z z a’s ve rdict “Y
