This is the moment an owl that crashed into a balcony and fell into a house is rescued in Colombia. The footage shows an owl being tended to after hitting a balcony in the centre of Bogota, the capital of Colombia. The bird appears quite alarmed and the firefighters tend to its wing, which appears injured. Its beak also appears broken and its eyes are bulging. The footage was posted on social media by Bogota's firefighters who said: "Last night, the Group for the Search and Rescue of Animals in Emergencies rescued an owl that crashed into a balcony and fell injured inside a house." They added that they took the bird to a local animal charity for rehabilitation and to prepare it for its subsequent release into the environment. Colombia has more bird species than any country on earth and has 28 species of owl. One species, the Colombian screech owl (Megascops colombianus) is considered as near threatened while another, the cloud-forest pygmy owl (Glaucidium nubicola), is vulnerable. Conservationists are not concerned about the other 26 species. It is not the first time that the rescue group have saved an owl. On 2nd June, the Bogota firefighters rescued an owl that could not fly after it tripped over a step by a house. (T4/ends)
