Chinese Body Painting Artist Is A Human Chameleon

These impressive videos demonstrate the chameleon-like qualities of a Chinese artist who is capable of fading into the background using spectacular camouflage paint. Oil painter Wang Liang, 31, calls himself the 'invisible artist' because of how he likes to paint himself in the backgrounds of his photos. The videos show him painting himself in bright colours in a way that looks as if he's never going to blend into any background. Yet as the camera pans to the right position – he suddenly appears to vanish as the colours he has chosen see him almost vanishing from site. Local media dubbed him the human chameleon, although Wang Liang himself prefers to describe himself as a painter. He said however that he got bored of using the canvas, and decided to switch to painting himself on the spot. He said: "I am an advocate of harmony between man and nature, and I want to show that we are part of nature in my own way. I want to encourage people to love nature through my art." The videos include one where he stands against a background of trees, rocks and a blue sky, in another he even manages to mimic the complicated architectural structure of a breach, and on a third he is in a patch of wasteland on the outskirts of the factory. As the camera moves, as soon as the pattern he's drawn on himself matches the background, he fades into the background. (T4 / ends)
