REIN IT IN! STUNNING STALLIONS PHOTOGRAPHED MID-FIGHT WITH PIX By William Lailey These beautiful wild stallions were caught on camera fighting for dominance. Professional wildlife photographers Pattie and George Walsh took these eye-capturing pictures whilst visiting Tonto National Forest in Arizona where they came across two wild horses having a fight by Salt River. The couple run a photography tour where they take a group of hopeful photographers out to try and capture some of the wildlife in the area. The whole group were in for a surprise when they witnessed two Salt River wild horses sparring to try and protect their families. Pattie and George regularly come across the wild horses whilst on their tour, as well as coyotes and a variety of birds including bald eagles. Pattie said: "The horses first do a little 'dance' where they sniff and go around in a circle. Then they nip at each other's ankles and rear up to demonstrate their strength. They spar and take battle stance postures to defend their mares and their grazing space. "It's always exciting to see the wild horses sparring and protecting their families. They are very protective and make sure that another stallion doesn't get too close and try and steal their mares. Most wild horses tend to follow a hierarchy in the desert where they may challenge each other but they don't usually hurt each other - most times it's just a challenge. "We usually take two to four people out on photo tours to see the wild horses and other wildlife in the forest to teach them how to locate and photograph them". ENDS
