LUCKY DAD CAN ESCAPE INTO A FOREST IN HIS BACK GARDEN WITH PIX By William Lailey A lucky dad has his own forest to escape from everyday life - literally in his back garden. Terry, 37, moved with his family to Philipburn Cottage, in Allendale, Northumberland, in November, wanting to enjoy the countryside. The dad-of-two, who works for a public services union loves spending time camping in the woods with his two-year old son Neirin and seeing the wildlife. He said: “We moved here in November last year having always wanted to live in the countryside. “The lockdown meant we couldn't really go on holiday so I decided to camp in the garden in a hammock, I then took my son Neirin, in a little tent by the burn. “We have a gravel driveway in front of the house that drops away down the den to the burn, this den is wooded and perfectly idyllic. “When we moved there was no fence so that was one of the first jobs I had to do to make it safe for the boys. “I then started on the woodland path to gently wind down to the bottom to replace the old wooden steps. “My favourite thing about it is spending time in the woods, listening to the babbling water, it brings us so much peace. “The wildlife is amazing too, we get deer, squirrels, woodpeckers, tree creepers and lots of owls, it's our little escape from reality. “I can't believe how lucky we are to have a place like this, there was lots of work to do down there over the winter when we first moved so I had lots of time to reflect and listen to the world. “The hard work has all been worth it, in spring we were inundated with wild garlic, some of which we bagged up and hung on the gate for passers by to enjoy, this autumn we are looking forward to harvesting beech nuts. “ ENDS
